Objective of the workshop/seminar/activity: This guest lecture was aimed at acquainting the students of the department about the courage and contribution of India's forgotten freedom fighters and their legacy in India’s independence.

 

Summary/Description (max 500 words):

The Department of History and Indian Culture organized an online guest lecture on the “Unsung Heroes: The Forgotten Freedom Fighters of India” on 25nd January 2024.  This guest lecture was aimed at acquainting the students of the department about the courage and contribution of India's forgotten freedom fighters and their legacy in India’s independence.

Dr. Sharad Rathore, Head, Department of History and Indian Culture formally welcomed the guest speakers Professor N. Murugeshwari, Department of Woman Studies, Bharathidasan University,Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. Who is a winner of the Women Development Achievers Award twice in her lifetime. Dr Murugeshwari talked about the contribution of the unsung freedom fighters of India such as Ramaswamy Konda and  Tangamuttu. She also highlighted the various activities of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and his associates drawn from oral history and archival material which is lesser known to the common people.

Followed by her was the Lecture by Ms. Chanda Asani who is  currently pursuing her Ph.D from Bharathidasan University in Tamil Nadu. She highlighted the importance of research and also shared her experience as a research scholar of Women Studies in Tamil Nadu. The lecture was followed by an interactive session between the students and the guest speaker and was moderated by Dr. Sharad Rathore.

Ms. Bhavya Sharma proposed a formal vote of thanks. The students appreciated the lecture which added to their knowledge of the subject. All the student found this program very informative and enriching.

Outcome of the activity/event/seminar/workshop:

The intellect and profound knowledge of the speakers inspired the students to further research and discover the forgotten heroes of our country through historical research. The lecture added value to the existing knowledge based of the students about India's forgotten freedom fighters and ensured that their legacy to Indian independence is reserved till posterity which will forever inspire the coming generations.
