Guest Lecture on Arms and Weapons in Medieval Rajasthan with special reference to Marwar

The Department of History organized a Guest lecture on Arms and Weapons in Medieval Rajasthan with special reference to Marwar for the Students of Department of History on 25th January 2016. The Guest Speaker on this occasion was Robert Elgood. He was consultant in Indian and Islamic arms at Sotheby's London in the 1980s and Research Fellow, Eastern European, Islamic and Asian Arms and Armour at the Wallace Collection 2006 – 2012.

The guest was welcomed by floral greetings by the head of the Dept. Professor Sharad Rathore, who gave a short introduction about him. The speaker started his lecture with the political history of Marwar then he gives an introduction on Rajputs Arms. He discussed about the physical layout, administrative structure and the accumulative nature of a Jodhpur armory as a repository that developed over centuries. He also talked about the various inventory records and different type of production or repair works done on the arms, the cost of the work, and the name, trade occupation, and origin of craftsmen involved in the work.

Lastly, Neha Thakur, a student of the department presented the vote of thanks to the guest. Overall, it was an interesting and knowledgeable session which is helped the students understand a new area of study in history.
