Objective of the workshop/seminar/activity: To acquaint the students with the significance and historical relevance of the festival of Raksha Bandhan
Summary/Description (max 500 words):
An Extension activity on “The significance and historical relevance of the festival of Raksha Bandhan” was organised by the Department of History and Indian Culture in collaboration with NSS on 28th August 2024. The students visited the Government Senior Secondary School in Thadi Market, went to different classes and spoke to the students about the relevance of this festival of tying Rakhis. The display boards of the schools were decorated with props and attractive posters made by the Department students. They also narrated some interesting stories, which forms the very foundation of the brother-sister relationship, such as that of Indra-Sachi and Krishna-Draupadi in the Ancient and Humayun-Karnavati in the Medieval period. The university students celebrated this festival with the school students tied Rakhis and gave them chocolates which further added to the spirit of happiness and friendship among them. It was an enriching experience and the students learned & enjoyed a lot.
Outcome of the activity/event/seminar/workshop: The schools students were able to understand the historical significance of Rakha Bandhan and developed friendship and camaraderie among them.
